Braves trade Kotchman to B'Sox for LaRoche

初看有點奇怪的交易，對紅襪或勇士都一樣，看不出來有什麼必要，感覺還有點像不久前 Francoeur 換 Ryan Church。尤其在紅襪這一方，B'Sox 基本上屬於貴族階級沒什麼省錢的必要，而且這次交易也補了勇士150萬平衡二人的薪資差異，加上731大限前又從印地安人搞來了Victor Martinez，誰替補一壘其實沒多大差別，若把可能是 TypeB 的 LaRoche 留到季後開個 Arbitration 也能弄個三明治新秀。

而勇士放棄價格不高且可以控制到2011季末的 Kotchman 也很奇怪，雖然 Kotchman 沒有什麼長程火力，但他的防守比 LaRoche 好(參見下圖, John Wright's "Braves Chart of the Day: July 23, 2009")，選球更是沒話說(本季或生涯的BB+IBB>SO)，而 LaRoche 被三振的次數是被四壞的二倍。我想，只能期待生涯下半季棒子常會發熱的臘肉，能給勇士帶來一點希望。


All and all, IMO, Adam LaRoche deserves to be an everyday 1st baseman and Kotchman is a better backup/bench player.

我必須承認自己很喜歡臘肉，希望下半季他能用好成績取得下一季繼續留在勇士的機會。

送走逐年下滑、越打越爛的 Jeff Francoeur 沒什麼太大的意外，但和 Mets 交易就有點怪了，可能這是沒有被 DFA 或年底被 Non-tender 的 Francoeur 現在僅存的最大價值吧。

感覺已經待了很久的 Francoeur 其實今年才25歲，也許是背負了太多家鄉父老的期待，加上自己過度的自信(ego something)，讓一個 2005 年才 21 歲就踏上大聯盟、上了 SI 封面的年輕人，並且被視為勇士未來看板球星的 Frenchy，逐漸成為由期望轉失望球迷的恥笑對象。

至於今年10月滿31歲的 Ryan Church 也不用期望太高，Mets 不是笨蛋，這只是個雙方抱點期待、賭賭運氣的交易。

Anyway, Frenchy的離開至少解放了勇士球迷長久的壓抑。Christmas in July... for Frenchy or for fans??

AJC: Lowe agrees to $60 million deal with Braves
Free agent Derek Lowe agreed to terms on a four-year, $60 million contract with the Braves, a person familiar with negotiations said. The deal will be finalized after he takes a physical this week.

Chipper said "I'd feel better than I did 48 hours ago. I still think that can be a really good rotation with John Smoltz in it, but no sense crying over spilled milk. What we got is what we got. We’ve just got to go out there and play better. We were without Smoltzy for a long time last year, so we’re used to that at least. We’ve just got to go out and play better."

On Lowe being a groundball pitcher, Kelly Johnson said "I'm lobbying that they keep the grass where it is right now, nice and long and thick."

勇士以四年 $60M 取得 Derek Lowe, 投手的補強算是完成了，Lowe + Vanzque + Jurrjens + 川上憲伸 + (JoJo,Morton,Campillo...) 放在哪裡都是很有競爭力的先發輪值。

這次 Derek Lowe 會來勇士，除了白花花的鈔票，黃金經紀人 $cott Boras 也盡了不少力推銷勇士給 Lowe。Boras 認為勇士整體的狀況，包括最重要的內野防守等，都值得 Lowe 慎重考慮，即使原先 Lowe 和他老婆比較喜歡東北方的大城市。Boras 的舌蜜腹劍大家都見識過，不過 AJB 的 DOB 認為 Boras 的確對勇士的評價很高而且未來充滿希望。

Kenshin Kawakami is scheduled to undergo a physical in Atlanta on Monday. Kawakami, who has spent the past 11 seasons as one of the top pitchers in Japan's Central League.

Kawakami went 9-5 with a 2.30 ERA in 20 appearances (16 starts) and 117 1/3 innings for the Chunichi Dragons this past season. He missed nearly three weeks in September with a strained back.

Armed with an average fastball that sits around 90 mph, a slow curveball and an effective cutter.

According to Scott Miller of CBSSports.com, the Padres are expected to request Jake Peavy waive his no-trade clause to go to the Braves. The deal being discussed: Yunel Escobar, Gorkys Hernandez(1A), one of two starting pitchers --Charlie Morton or Jo-Jo Reyes--, and either reliever Blaine Boyer or one of two minor league southpaws(one of which is believed to be Jeff Locke). Miller says the Padres are leaning toward Morton and Boyer.

The Braves want an answer by Friday, so they can figure out their free agent needs. Peavy is said to prefer the Cubs, but we'll see what happens if the Padres approach him to waive the no-trade for Atlanta. It hasn't happened yet.

Junichi Tazawa?

MLB 的 Winter meeting 開始了，Braves 的首要目標當然是二位先發投手和一位外野手，除了參與 Jake Peavy 的爭奪戰，根據 AJC DOB 的報導，Braves 也是第一支提出offer 給日本22歲的右投手Junichi Tazawa(田沢純一)的球隊，同時還有 Boston、Seattle、Chicago Cubs 也有興趣。根據報導，Braves提出這份 multi-year offer 的一紙MLB合約內容包括列入40人名單及參加大聯盟春訓。

The Braves traded Teixeira to the Los Angeles Angels for first baseman Casey Kotchman and minor-league reliever Stephen Marek.

Kotchman, 25, has hit .287 with 24 doubles, 12 home runs and 54 RBIs in 100 games for the Angels this season, after hitting .296 with 11 homers and 68 RBIs in his first full season in 2007. He's a strong defensive first baseman.

4:50pm: Jayson Stark has the scoop - Mark Teixeira is headed to the Angels for Casey Kotchman and another player. MLB.com's Lyle Spencer says the second player is relief prospect Stephen Marek.

Solid return for the Braves, certainly beats a couple of draft picks of unknown position. Kotchman is under team control through 2011.

Baseball America
The Angels converted Marek, 24, to the bullpen this season at Double-A Arkansas because he doesn't repeat his release point or maintain his focus while starting. He's gone 2-6, 3.66 with 57 strikeouts, 21 walks and two home runs in 47 innings, suggesting the change has done him well. Signed for $800,000 in 2005 as a draft-and-follow from San Jacinto (Texas) JC, Marek's 88-94 mph fastball and plus, mid-70s curveball have played up in relief, where his under-developed is less of a hindrance.

對天使來說，二個月加play-off的Tex為打入總冠軍賽多加了一道保險(a wild guess of 2008 world series: Cubs vs Angels)，而且Angels有錢可以留住Teixeira。

對勇士來說，Kotchman plus any middle prospect 都比未知的兩個draft picks好。千萬別拿去年換Tex的包裹來比較，去年Braves還有一拼進入季後賽的機會，更重要的是Tex還有一年的保用期。現在拿二個月使用期的Tex換來至少可以用到2011年的Kotchman，對手頭不寬的勇士隊來說，擠出來的預算或許可以在未來補強殘破的先發投手群和外野手。

Andruw said the truth behind this move,
"If it's not a save situation, he was not happy about it," Andruw Jones said. "It's not fair to the team. It's not fair for the manager. The way he was going about this business, separate from everybody.

"We're a team. Everybody has their own attitude. Everybody's got their own feeling about each other. Everybody's got their own way of going about their business. But when we put a uniform on and we're all together, we're all as one. And we need guys who want to go out there and perform."

Surprised, no idea about this move yet. Perhaps I'd call this move a kick-ass. Bobby clearly made a sign, play 100% or fuxk yourself elsewhere.

看來 John Schuerholz 是吃了秤砣鐵了心，今年非打進季後賽不可的樣子，把季中交易市場可能得到的籌碼都弄進來，現在只剩先發投手這塊空缺，不過也沒什麼好貨可以換就是了。

我沒特別注意過這位球員，所以不能多描述什麼。

$5-6M/Yr 和現任 closer Bob Wickman 差不多，不特別貴、也不怎麼便宜，目前可能和 Soriano 共同擔任 Wickman 的 setup。

前幾天被 DFA 的 Ledezma 加上小聯盟的 Will Startup 換一隻左手牛 Royce Ring (本季在大聯盟 15 局的投球，面對左打 avg .250, 對右打 avg .161)，預計先派到 3A Richmond 等九月擴編才會上來，不特別重要的一筆交易，算是補強牛棚左投的深度。

Rangers owner Tom Hicks revealed Tuesday that he offered Mark Teixeira an eight-year, $140 million contract two weeks ago.
The Rangers became more intent on trading him after he turned down the proposal. "I thought we made enough of an offer to keep him a Ranger for life," Hicks said. :I'm disappointed he turned it down, but I think we did everything we could to keep him. Now, we've got some very good young players coming here and I feel with some good moves and free-agent signings, we can be a championship team."

This last consideration may not bother many, but Salty has an unusual family situation. Now 21, he married a teacher at his high school in West Palm Beach, Fla., who is now 37, according to records. His wife Ashley, who recently gave birth to their second child, insisted to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that their personal relationship didn't begin until the fall of 2004, when Salty was 18.
The Rangers apparently are aware of Salty's unusual family situation and are said to believe he's maturing. Besides, switch-hitting catchers are hard to come by.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram says the Rangers will get Neftali Feliz along with Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Elvis Andrus and another pitching prospect from the Braves in the Mark Teixeira deal.
It says nothing about Matt Harrison, though he may be the other pitching prospect. If so, this just gets even better for the Rangers. The 19-year-old Feliz had as much upside as any pitching in Atlanta's system.

Teixeira trading "rumor"

Matt Harrison has been removed from the Braves' Mark Teixeira proposal after being shut down with shoulder tendinits.
Says FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Braves are still offering Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Elvis Andrus for Teixeira, and they gave the Rangers a list of young pitchers to consider as Harrison's replacement. Jo-Jo Reyes isn't on said list, though he might yet be in play if Eric Gagne or C.J. Wilson is included along with Teixeira.

沒什麼好懷疑的，非常棒的一位球員，而且正是 Braves 野手裡最弱的 1B，交易過來絕對比目前的 Who-Lee-Old+Thorman 大幅提升。但是用掉 Salty 和二位 high-rank 新秀值得嗎？Teixeira 的高薪資 Braves 明年季後能留得下來嗎？Braves 不是該補強投手嗎？

一開始我懷疑這個交易的合理性，但現在覺得這個交易並不算差。

1) Saltalamacchia 的價值，很大的原因在於他是個打擊很好的捕手，而 Braves 已經有個今年才簽了六年約的 Brian McCann，被擋住的 Salty 只能移往1B。但就目前為止，不管什麼原因，Bobby Cox 並沒有讓 Salty 常常站在1B，還撿了49歲的老胡回來。另外 Salty 在1B有限的場次下表現得也並不理想，下列今年的成績。

Salty 擔任一壘手時的三圍真的不行，雖然樣本數太少，但至少以目前僅有的數據呈現的是如此。或許 Salty 再練一段時間能站好一壘，有 Kelly Johnson 成功轉型的前例，我相信未來 Salty 「可能」成為比 Teixeira 還好的球員，但目前也僅是「可能」而已。就如前面所提的，Salty 最大的價值是個很會打擊的捕手，而我們已經有一個了。

2) Elvis Andrus 這幾年一直是勇士農場裡排名很高的新秀，年輕是他最大的本錢，但未來也因此充滿不確定性，future Derek Jeter or Edgar Renteria ? Who knows. 至少要再等個三、四年才曉得真正的答案。不過 Braves 在 SS 這個位置包括 Brent Lillibridge、Chase Fontaine 和已經升上來的 Yunel Escobar 都還不錯，若 Edgar Renteria 明年的表現還是這麼亮眼，如果有錢的話，那麼他 2009 年的 $11M club option 也可以撿起來，或試試重簽合約的可能。
Matt Harrison 是目前農場裡評價最好的 SP，我不知道他有多好，但這樣的評價一定有他值得期待的道理，another Jo-Jo Reyes、Anthony Lerew、Kyle Davies、Chuck James or Adam Wainwright ? 一樣要等個二年才會知道真正的答案。

3) 今年季中的交易市場沒什麼好投手丟出來，就算有，以目前各隊都極缺投手的狀況，炒出來的價碼可能不是 Braves 能負擔的。Salty for Snell 可能是之前最好的交易傳聞，但事實上現在就是沒有好投手丟出來。而球季末的交易市場呢？我們等著看一些 2nd-tier 的投手能被炒到什麼樣的驚人價碼。

4) Teixeira 明年仲裁年一過就成為自由球員，Braves 留下他的可能性有多高？我稍微查了一下資料，2009 年 Hampton 的 $6M buyout 大概會留給 Rockies 來付，Andruw 可能也不在了，最大的幾個合約包括：Chipper $8M(vest option)、Hudson $13M、Smoltz $12M、McCann $3.5M 加起來差不多$36M，再來撿不撿 Renteria 的 $11M option 和其他未確定的球員 Francoeur、Chucky、Soriano、Gonzalez 薪資粗估一下，Braves 願意的話還是有機會留下 Teixeira 的，而即使留不住他，Braves 仍能在季中交易他，或最差在季末拿到二個選秀權。

John Schuerholz 一向對交易農場裡的高階新秀毫不手軟，該出手時絕不猶豫，這是他與其他球隊 GM 最大的不同，尤其在受 Money Ball 思維影響的這個年代，Schuerholz 在沒什麼大錢的情況下還能以這樣的手法獲得大部分不錯的交易結果，所以即使這次一口氣丟出三個最好的新秀，我只能選擇相信他的判斷，或者說，至少 Braves 並沒有放棄今年的機會，如果還能弄來個不錯的牛棚那就更好了。JS 是騙子、勇士賣假貨？只能怪其他球隊太笨了。

BTW, 這筆交易讓我想起 1993 年的 Fred McGriff，那年到了七月二十二日 Braves 還落後 Giants 10 場，但最後以一場勝差拿下國聯西區冠軍，Fred McGriff 扮演了重要的角色。如果 Teixeira 的到來也有這樣的效果，現實的我們大概很快就會忘了當時這筆交易的代價吧。Just wait and see.

Langerhans traded to A's

The slumping left fielder was traded to Oakland for cash or a player to be named, a deal announced after the Braves' 11-inning loss to the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. The Braves have purchased the contract of utility man Willie Harris, who was batting .362 at Class AAA Richmond.

Braves get Royals' Erik Cordier for Tony Pena Jr.

26 歲的 Tony Pena Jr. 會離開 Braves 不令人意外，因為他的 option 已經用完了，如果開季未被列入 25 人名單就形同勇士自動放棄 (waiver)。John Schuerholz 為避免白白浪費一位球員，與 Royals 換來小聯盟先發右投手 Erik Cordier (圖左)，而皇家隊的總經理 Dayton Moore 以前是 JS 在勇士的副手，負責球員發展、主管整個農場系統，Pena 也是他熟悉的球員。

Erik Cordier 是 Royals 在 2004 年第二輪 (63rd overall) 選入，6 呎 3 吋的身材、最快球速 98 mph。他的健康問題不少， 今年才 21 歲的 Cordier 在加入皇家小聯盟的第二年 (2005) 就因為膝傷整季報銷，今年大概也因為去年動的 Tommy John 韌帶更換手術而沒辦法上場。之前介紹 Braves 小聯盟新秀的文章裏，看到勇士優秀的低階小聯盟投手不少，像 Matt Harrison、Jo Jo Reyes、Neftali Feliz、Jamie Richmond ... 等等，所以或許 Cordier 未來會轉任牛棚。

Cordier 三年來只出賽 21 場，但去年傷癒復出在小聯盟 1A 級的 52.2 局裏投出 2.91 ERA、42K、17 BB，而且對手打擊率只有 .198。據說 Cordier 已經開始練投(Click here)，可能會出現在今年的 Fall Instructional League。去年 BA 將他評為皇家隊新秀的第六名、擁有最佳的速球，而現在也有人把他列為 Braves 農場裏和 Anthony Lerew 差不多的等級，這樣看來應該是個不錯的新人。

平心而論，這是個不錯的交易，至少不會白白損失 Tony Pena Jr.，而 Erik Cordier 雖然有傷，但他的年紀和以往的紀錄滿值得期待，不過一切都還太早。

Braves add Mark Redman with Hampton hurt

在苦命的 Mike Hampton 受傷不到二天內，Braves 迅速地簽下了左投 Mark Redman 加入五號先發的競逐，他是 2003 年世界冠軍馬林魚隊的一員，所以勇士的球迷應該還有點印象。雖然現在的狀況還不清楚，不過 Rotoworld 預期他會擠下 Lance Cormier 在先發投手群裡佔一個位置。

由近幾年的表現看來，我對他沒有太多的期待，只希望比 2003 的 Shane Reynolds 表現好一點，請參考下列 Redman 近五年的成績(扣掉06在2A的部份)：

'06 三月曾因左膝蓋軟骨受傷在 DL 待了快二個月，也代表皇家隊入選明星賽，but it's Royals, you know。在市場大缺投手的今天，不用提 Gil Meche 與皇家隊五年 $55M 的肥約，連 Jason Marquies 都和小熊簽下一紙三年 $21M 的合約，而去年 11 月底 Royals 就宣佈不提供 Redman 薪資仲裁，但拖到今天才與 Braves 簽下小聯盟合約，而且進40人名單只有 $750K(plus performance bonus $500K)，若純粹以市場價值來衡量，Redman 大概和补贊浩(with Mets $600K, max. $2.40M) 差不多，不過不管什麼理由，在這二個裏我很高興來的是 Mark Redman。

Braves 會簽 Redman 的重要理由當然是經濟考量，之前在 Braves 2007 payroll estimation 這篇估計目前的薪資總額接近 $79M，在 $80M 的預算下 Redman 可說是不得不的最好選擇了。

Braves Trade LaRoche to Pirates for Gonzalez

Adam LaRoche & Jamie Romak(OF) <-> Mike Gonzalez & Brent Lillibridge(SS)

well, 該來的還是跑不掉，LaRoche 還是被交易出去了，換來各隊垂涎的強力左投 Mike Gonzalez，加上之前交易來的 Rafael Soriano，Braves 在終結者 Bob Wickman 前面擁有了二位優秀的 setup man，築成了 MLB 現階段最強的牛棚。但是損失一位具有 0.300 BA/30HR/100 RBI 實力、防守也不錯的一壘手換一個 setup man 是否值得呢？Scott Thorman 是否成熟到可以替代 LaRoche？即使擁有了 MLB 屬一屬二的牛棚，但先發投手的漏洞還是存在，Hampton 完全痊癒了嗎？誰是第五號先發？二壘手及第一棒的人選也還未確定，Braves 還是留下不少謎團有待證實。

2007/1/19 update:
就這個交易本身來說，算是個公平的交易；但就球隊的戰力部分，well ......
LaRoche 雖然在上一季(尤其是下半季)的表現突出，但是否真的能如大家所期待的持續下去還是個未知數。正面來看，雖然二年級症狀也發生在他的身上，但他第三年在 Julio Franco 離隊和 Brian Jordan 受傷後獨自負擔起一壘手的任務，並接受治療從高中以來一直困擾他的 ADD 症狀，打擊成績突飛猛進、防守也在水準以上。有多久 Braves 的一壘手讓人有這麼大的期待，拿 1995 世界冠軍時的 McGriff、2000 東山再起獎時的 Galarraga 跟去年的 LaRoche 比較看看：

我的老天，還只有 27 歲的 LaRoche 有可能是下一個 McGriff 或 Galarraga，即使不是大概也相距不遠。而 Pirates 裏多是右打，LaRoche 正是他們所需要的左打，加上又有 Salomon Torres、Matt Capps 二個可以接替終結者，難怪願意用 Gonzo 來換，這個交易在匹茲堡的球員、球迷的反應都是正面的。Good Luck, LaRoche.

Gonzalez 的隱憂在於有太多失敗的例子發生在中繼投手，Brad Lidge、Francisco Cordero、Eddie Guardado、Keith Foulke、Eric Gagne ... 噢 ... 怎能忘了 Dan Kolb，像 Mariano Rivera、Trevor Hoffman 這種健康長壽又有效率的實在不多。或許這也是為什麼在獲得 Rafael Soriano 後還找來 Gonzo 的原因之一，Braves 在上二季快被牛棚搞瘋了吧。

好在 Braves 今天又簽來了 IF/OF Craig Wilson，Robert Fick or Julio Franco No.2 ? anyway, It makes me feel better now.

K/9 > 10、K/BB > 2、右打者的打擊率是 .217、左打者只有 .176，的確是個非常非常棒的投手，沒有意外的話明年應該就是 Braves 的 closer 了。

雖然在 Baseball Prospectus 裏的評價不錯、在海盜的新秀排名第三，但 Braves 在游擊區已有合約到 2008 的 Edgar Renteria，小聯盟裡也還有 Elvis Andrus、Yunel Escobar 兩位年輕有潛力的球員，prospects are prospects, Lillibridge 的作用如何只有等待時間來證明了。

anyway, 很期待球季的開始，看看記憶以來 Braves 最堅強的牛棚能把球隊帶到什麼樣的境界。

Braves trade Ramirez to Mariners for Rafael Soriano

勇士以 Horacio Ramirez 與水手交換 Rafael Soriano

Braves 經由今天的交易獲得一位優秀的 Setup man，勇士將先發投手 Horacio Ramirez 送至西雅圖、換來生涯 0.212 AVG / 2.90 ERA / 177 SO / 171 IP 的中繼投手 Rafael Soriano。這項交易稍後將會正式宣佈，而勇士也撤回了他們提出 LaRoche 與海盜隊 Mike Gonzalez 的交易，但這並未保證 Adam LaRoche 繼續留在勇士。

Braves 仍需要擺脫薪資的壓力，LaRoche 和二壘手 Marcus Giles 一直是交易討論的中心，至少有六支球隊討論到他們。

在媒體告知這項交易後，27 歲的 Ramirez 說："我知道這件交易的可能性，但還是很震驚。" 他接著說： "Braves 是我所知道的職業棒球， 是他們在 1997 給我的機會。但，這行就是這樣，你能說什麼？"

這項交易也可能使勇士與天使的討論復甦，天使原本預備以 Chone Figgins 和一壘新秀 Casey Kotchman 和勇士交換 LaRoche，但因為交易的討論涉及一位好的投手而停止了。

勇士或許現在不再要求一位投手，而 Figgins 可以擔任第一棒並在 Giles 真的被交易時，負責二壘手位置；而 Kotchman 可以和 Scott Thorman 競爭一壘的位置。

Soriano 將可擔任 Bob Wickman 主要的 setup man，Wickman 在近二個球季於克里夫蘭及亞特蘭大 87 次救援機會中拿到 78 次救援成功，包括 7 月 20 日交易至勇士後的 18 SV / 19 SVO。

勇士牛棚的表現在 Wickman 來到前就葬送了球季的機會，季終是國家聯盟最差的 29 次救援失敗，而 4.39 ERA 也只排名 11。

27 歲的 Soriano 2006 球季在 8/29 被 Vladimir Guerrero 擊中頭部受傷前的 53 場出賽獲得 2.25 ERA 的成績，但這一擊讓他腦震盪並且在醫院待了一夜的特別照護。也由於持續的頭痛及其他副作用使得他於球季裏未再出賽，但在祖國多明尼加的冬季聯盟裏恢復了投球。

巧合的是，Ramirez 在今年六月也曾被太空人的 Lance Berkman 擊中頭部。

Ramirez 說："二個都被擊中頭部，真是諷刺啊。" Ramirez 的受傷只跳過了一次先發，但球季的最後二個月因手指的受傷而坐壁上觀，而四月及五月 Ramirez 也曾因腿筋裂傷而跳過二次先發。

Ramirez 今年 14 次先發獲得 5W-5L、4.48 ERA，在勇士四年的成績則為 30W-22L。在他初登大聯盟那年投出讓人充滿期待的 12W-4L 之後的三季是 18W-18L、4.19 ERA。他在 2004 年因肩膀的問題而大部分未上場，而最後還是需要動手術。

Soriano 在 2003 有個驚人的新人球季，在 40 場比賽 53 局裏投出 1.53 ERA、68 次三振、12 個保送、而且只被打出 30 支安打。他那季讓打者只有 0.162 的打擊率，右打者更只有 0.132。

在 2002 球季先發的 8 場獲得 0W-3L 的成績後，Soriano 轉由牛棚出發。轉任中繼投手的 Soriano 在 108 次出場 128-2/3 局的成績是 2.17 ERA、0.197 AVG、151 SO、37 BB。

Soriano 即將第一次獲得薪資仲裁，預估將獲得 $2M。

Jul 28 Happy Birthday Betemit & see-ya in Dogers

Braves 今天完成了近期第二筆交易，Wilson Betemit 在生日這天被交易至 LA Dogers(生日來自官網。well, you can’t count on Dominican ages)，換來了中繼投手 Danys Baez 及 內野手 Willy Aybar。知道這個消息很不舒服，我們把勇士未來的柱石之一，年輕、守備多工、打擊左右開弓、表現優異的 Betemit 拿去換來一個不怎麼樣的投手和一個未經考驗的新秀，但還是來看看他們的表現數據。

Willy Aybar 還很年輕，由他有限場次的表現來看，OBP 上壘率還不錯，其他實在很難評斷。我引用 USA Today 的評語：
左右開弓的 Aybar 在道奇 3A 的 OPS (OBP 上壘率 + SLG 長打率) 只有令人失望的 .775，但自去年八月升上大聯盟擔任道奇三壘手後，在上壘及長打方面的表現不錯(OBP .448 + SLG .453)。今年三月才滿 23 歲的 Aybar 可以守二或三壘，所以他應該可以培養成為長期的選手，但是因為道奇的新人輩出，所以在道奇的機會並不大。

Baez 今年投的很糟，看看他的 Sv/SvO，生涯的救援成功率 78.16%，但是今年 ..... 天啊！16 次救援機會裡砸了 7 次 (56.25% 成功率)；SO/BB 還可以，但也不是個三振型的投手。2005 在魔鬼魚的表現 (5W-4L、2.86 ERA、Sv/SvO 41/49) 是他生涯最好的一年，不知來到勇士後能否重拾身手，我希望可以。

Braves trade for closer Wickman

勇士以一個 21 歲 1A 的捕手 Max Ramirez 跟印地安人隊換來 Bob Wickman，一個 37 歲 14 年大聯盟經驗的投手。

Wickman 的 2005 球季拿下45 (50 SVO) 次救援成功、2.47 ERA，但今年至目前為止只有15 (18 SVO) 次、4.18 ERA。看起來是個正在走下坡的老投手，也許不是個 tough guy，但至少是一個有經驗的 Closer。

仔細看了一下今年他的表現，如果扣掉一場很爛的比賽 (0.2 IP, 3 H, 5 ER, 2 BB)，他的成績會變成 27.1 IP、26 H、8 ER、9 BB、2.63 ERA。Not bad for me! 也許 Wickman 不是個強力終結者，但至少改善目前牛棚的深度，而且今年勇士只要再付他 $2M，還有 $4M 的預算可以運用。這樣也許 Ken Ray 就可以擔任專職的 set-up man，It's an upgrade.

Max Ramirez 是 1A 的傑出捕手，未來的發展性不錯。但 Braves 已經有了 McCann，小聯盟裡還有 Saltalamacchia 及 Brayan Pena，少一個新秀捕手的損失很小。不知道印地安人是看上他哪一點，願意拿 Wickman 來換，還是 Wickman 有什麼問題？weird.

我給這個交易85分! 就像前面提的，我們沒什麼損失就獲得一個有經驗的 Closer。
